Society for Clinical Research Sites Submits Comment on Draft NIH Policy
Ellicott City, M.D., February 5, 2015 – The Society for Clinical Research Sites (SCRS), the global trade organization fully dedicated to representing the interests of clinical research sites, has submitted an official comment on the Draft NIH Policy on the Use of a Single Institutional Review Board for Multi-Site Research. The SCRS Public Policy Community convened to compose the Society’s response, which recognizes the value of human research protections, including the Institutional Review Board (IRB) system in the U.S., and welcomes the implementation of a policy requiring the use of a single IRB. The comment focuses on addressing the various practicalities that must be considered to ensure the use of a single IRB will provide better quality and be sustainable for the long-term in the conduct of clinical trials.
SCRS President Christine Pierre states, “Submission of this comment is emblematic of SCRS upholding one of the foundational pillars of our organization: advocating on behalf of our membership. The organization’s first priority is to ensure that all policies affecting the conduct of clinical research are implemented as smoothly as possible with patient safety as the primary focus. The response that our Public Policy Community drafted succinctly expresses this, and SCRS thanks NIH for the opportunity to comment on this important initiative.”
