Society for Clinical Research Sites Announces Changes in Leadership Council
Ellicott City, M.D., April 16, 2015 – The Society for Clinical Research Sites (SCRS), the global trade organization fully dedicated to representing the interests of clinical research sites, today announced additions to its Leadership Council after voting by current council members. The Leadership Council, established upon the organization’s formation in 2012, provides strategic guidance, policy decisions, and oversight for SCRS. The Leadership Council is comprised of experienced Investigators, site leaders, and one representative from sponsor and CRO companies. Additionally, TransCelerate’s CEO and the Association of Clinical Research Organizations’ (ACRO) Executive Director are active council members.
In a recent meeting in Annapolis, Maryland, the Leadership Council elected three new members by unanimous vote. These members were selectively nominated based on their involvement with the organization, executive experience in the clinical research industry, and capacity to aptly represent the interests of clinical research sites globally. The newest additions to the SCRS Leadership Council include Michael Koren, M.D., the CEO and Investigator at Jacksonville Center for Clinical Research, Fabian Sandoval, M.D., CEO and Medical Director at Emerson Clinical Research Institute, and David Vulcano, L.C.S.W, M.B.A., C.I.P, R.A.C, AVP and Responsible Executive for Clinical Research Clinical Services Group at HCA.

Funded by INC Research and developed by SCRS to retain and sustain sites participating in clinical research and build a critical mass of sites around the globe, the scholarship program brings new sites into sustainability through education and training. SCRS member benefits include training, education and mentorship tools and opportunities that position sites for excellence in the conduct of clinical trials, work that INC Research is supporting through its Circle of Sustainability Sponsorship. In addition to gaining the ability to participate in discussions and decisions that impact clinical research sites and the industry at large, sites awarded membership through the SCRS Site Scholarship Program are provided a pathway to sustainability through training and tools in six essential areas: business foundation, opportunity tied to first learning about a study, pre-study, patient enrollment, follow up and close out. “Positioning sites for sustainability and excellence is SCRS’ primary goal. Through this forum, INC Research will be at the forefront of working with sites to improve a key aspect of clinical trial management and facilitate ongoing dialogue on operational best practices for conducting successful research. “Clinical research sites are essential participants in bringing new therapies to market and making them readily available to patients in need,” said Clare Grace, Vice President, Site and Patient Access. “To this end, we as an industry must take an active role in providing them with the support they need to be successful. The survey also concluded that pass-through items are increasing for sites, placing more pressure on cash flow management. CROs can play a major role in alleviating some of this pressure by improving infrastructure and refining processes to better support sites. The Investigator Payment SAG aims to understand in depth the pain points sites experience and modernize financial processes to keep clinical research sites engaged, as well as recruit new sites. SCRS members across therapeutic practices are invited to join the Investigator Payment SAG, which will kick-off later this year.
