The PCT Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes pioneers who have revolutionized the clinical trial space. Previous winners include ACRES’ Dr. Greg Koski, Lilly’s Jean Edwards, and Tufts University School of Medicine’s Professor Ken Getz. Christine Pierre dedicated more than 30 years of her life to strengthening and transforming the clinical research site community. October 23, 2018 – The SCRS team is deeply saddened to share that SCRS founder and president, Christine Pierre, passed away today. Christine was diagnosed with ocular melanoma in early 2017. After surgery and receiving a positive prognosis from her doctors, she returned to life as normal – perhaps with a bit more reverence for what it means to live. In the time after her diagnosis, Christine poured herself into shaping the next generation of leadership at SCRS; she positioned the organization for a successful 2018 Global Site Solutions Summit and created a succession plan to ensure that SCRS would continue to grow and thrive. In early 2018, we learned that Christine’s cancer metastasized to her liver. She entered a number of clinical trials that afforded her more time with loved ones. Outside of her family and friends, Christine’s greatest love was the dynamic organization she built. If there is a message she wanted to instill, it is the importance of the clinical research site industry. Christine dedicated almost three decades of her life to advancing the work and voice of clinical research sites. With this passion and vision, she conceptualized the first Site Solutions Summit in 2006 and founded the Society for Clinical Research Sites in 2012. Christine was an industry leader in the site arena and has represented the site community globally through hundreds of speaking engagements and research articles published in her name. Her contribution to furthering the sustainability of clinical research sites is unmatched. Having grown from 12 attendees to almost 1,000, the Global Site Solutions Summit is now recognized as the leading conference representing clinical research sites and is just one component of the work she has contributed to advancing clinical research. SPRIA recognizes a research site that has developed and implemented an innovative patient recruitment program. Three finalists were chosen by an independent judging panel. After the finalists presented their plans at the Global Site Solutions Summit, the winner was chosen by a panel of judges. When assessing the plans, judges looked for innovative patient-directed initiatives that were unique, effective and took the campaign response into account. Seth Mayberry, representing Chattanooga Medical Research, won SPRIA with a patient recruitment campaign on a contraceptive study that exceeded the enrollment goal of five patients by enrolling a total of eighteen patients. This feat was accomplished in one month for a study that was wrought with recruitment challenges. The Site Tank award recognizes a research site that has developed an innovative technology solution for clinical research. Following the finalists’ presentations at the Global Site Solutions Summit, attendees voted to determine which technology solution was the most innovative and impactful. When assessing each presentation, judges looked for technology concepts designed to enhance, empower and improve the clinical research industry. Claudia Gomes, representing Envision Physician Clinical Research, won Site Tank with an innovative dashboard that was created for billing compliance. He has been active and engaged in the clinical research industry for the past six years, previously holding positions on both the site and sponsor sides of the industry. Jimmy joins SCRS as senior project manager to coordinate project performance and implementation and to mitigate risks. Additionally, the program endeavors to reinforce existing and establish new oncology clinical research sites through the identification, adoption and dissemination of best site practices.
