FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ellicott City, MD, October 24, 2016 – Research Institute of Deaconess Clinic has won the 2016 Society for Clinical Research Sites (SCRS) Site Tank. This award recognizes a research site that has developed an innovative technology solution for clinical research. The award was presented after the finalists presented their ideas at the Global Site Solutions Summit and voted upon by the attendees as the most innovative idea.
Deaconess’ innovative idea uses mobile technology to offer research sites and sponsors a viable alternative to destroying unused lab kits leftover at the completion of clinical trials. The mobile App connects research sites with a surplus of medical supplies with humanitarian aid organizations in need of medical supply donations. Using market place technology, Deaconess’ new App is based on a humanitarian effort to limit unnecessary disposal of medical supplies and to improve public health.
“Technology has been identified as a key turning point for site sustainability. In our 2016 Site Landscape Survey, sites were split between whether technology has helped or hindered productivity,” said Christine Pierre, President of SCRS. “We are in need of site-centric solutions that reduce inefficiencies, in this case by turning waste into an opportunity to serve others.”
“We’re so humbled to win Site Tank and receive support for an idea that will help communities in need around the world,” said Gregory Folz, CCRP, Administrative Director of the Research Institute of Deaconess Clinic. “Last year’s Site Solutions Summit inspired me to think beyond my own site and what we do every day, to identify opportunities to make a difference that new technologies make possible today.”
