FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SCRS Announces PPD and Pfizer as 2021 Eagle Award Recipients

Hanover, MD, October 6, 2021 – The Society for Clinical Research Sites (SCRS), the trade organization representing global clinical research sites, is pleased to announce the 2021 recipients of the prestigious SCRS Eagle Award.  The Eagle Award, sponsored in 2021 by Advarra, recognizes outstanding leadership, professionalism, integrity, passion and dedication to advancing the clinical research profession through strong site partnerships. Pfizer is this year’s winning sponsor and PPD is the winning contract research organization (CRO).

“Advarra is pleased to sponsor the 2021 SCRS Eagle Awards, recognizing those organizations who fuel clinical research innovation through strong site, CRO, and sponsor relationships,” shared Advarra’s VP of Strategy, Laura Hilty. “At Advarra we are passionate about empowering sites and enabling site-centric research and these organizational partnerships are foundational to clinical research success and fuels industry innovation and progress.”

The selection criteria for finalists included willingness to collaborate on protocol design and execution, availability of staff to support sites, responsive communication, and fair contracting, budgeting, and payment schedules. SCRS site members nominated companies they had worked with in the past year that they felt exemplified these characteristics, and the winning sponsor and CRO were selected based on votes cast from the global site community. The awards were presented at the SCRS Global Site Solutions Summit Eagle Award Gala, which was held at The Diplomat Beach Resort in Hollywood, Florida October 1 – 3, 2021.

Darren Cowan, Area Head, North America at Pfizer accepted the award while commenting, “Clinical research is hard work, and the last two years have shown us what hard looks like. I want to thank all the global clinical research professionals who answered the call of duty for the world. Your commitment to helping others is remarkable and it’s through your dedication that we’re able to keep science moving forward for people everywhere. Thank you.”

“The Eagle Award is one of the most prestigious honors in our industry, and this recognition affirms PPD’s ongoing commitment to create and sustain strong relationships with our site partners,” said David Johnston, Ph.D., executive vice president and global head of clinical development services at PPD. “In close coordination with our site partners and customers, we are committed to upholding the highest standards in clinical trial management to help deliver life-changing therapies for patients. We want to thank the sites and their research teams for their collaborative partnership as we progress our shared vision.”

“Each Eagle Award finalist represents an amazing commitment to ongoing site success. After more than 4,500 votes, SCRS is honored to present the Eagle Award to Pfizer, the sites’ 2021 sponsor of choice and to PPD, the CRO of choice,” says Sean Soth, Vice President of Global Business Partnerships at SCRS. “SCRS applauds the consistent efforts of Pfizer and PPD to sustain strong partnerships with sites. Congratulations to these two companies for earning this prestigious recognition.”
